What is it?

The Building Blocks program is to help parents set a strong foundation in their child’s learning. This program targets skills that are developmental milestones and need to be achieved. I have written these programs to assist parents in getting ahead and ensuring success for their child.

I am a behaviour therapist and passionate about empowering parents, with children of all needs. These programs can be used with children of all skill levels. I have written the programs with parents in mind. The programs are simple and easy to run. If I believe that a program is difficult, parents are provided with video samples on how to complete the programs.

Who is it for?

Building Blocks is intended for parents of children with special needs. When a therapy centre subscribes to this program, they will receive access to all the programs and be able to further help the families that they support. This program aims to foster independence in parents when they are teaching their children every-day skills.

Why should you use it?

Building Blocks aim is to foster independence and confidence in parents, especially parents of children with special needs. The content of the program helps to decrease the gap between what children are learning in childcare or pre-school and milestones that each child needs to meet. Building Blocks includes videos and materials to help parents in teaching their children.

How does it work?

When you open up Building Blocks, you will find an abundance of programs to choose from. These programs are to assist parents in becoming their children’s favourite and best teachers. You will find programs ranging from fine motor skills to early reading skills.

There are different categories, visual performance, imitation, learning to write, learning to spell, etc., In each category, there are several programs which build upon each other to be a scaffold for your child’s learning.

A behaviour therapist can help you in deciding what programs would be most suitable for your child. When a program is chosen and assigned, you will see the materials involved and included, step by step instructions, video models, data collection methodology, and specific program targets for each program. Your behaviour therapist will assist you in learning more about the data collection and how to use each program.

Ushmeet Deol

My name is Ushmeet Deol. I specialize in working with children with special needs. I received my undergraduate degree from Ryerson University in Early Childhood Education.

Currently, I am pursuing a Masters in Applied Disability Studies at Brock University. I have extensive experience in working with people with special needs.

I have worked with people with special needs for over 7 years, including ADHD, OCD, Cerebral Palsy. muscle atrophy, etc., In the most recent 4 years, I have been working specifically with people who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have worked in multiple organizations, in varying roles, to support people with ASD. I have been using techniques and principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis to support these individuals. As a behaviour therapist, I have worked one-on-one with children with ASD and as a senior therapist, overlooking and assessing progress for each child.

Aside from my career, I am a fun-loving person. I enjoy hiking and being out in nature with my family. If I’m not out in nature, you will find me in the kitchen, cooking or baking over the top meals. I believe it is very important to have interests outside of your career and be a well-rounded individual.
