What Is It?

Parents and caregivers come to me every day about the challenges, struggles and frustrations they have parenting their children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The CALM Compass is a program that will help bridge the gap between a provider and the parent by educating the parent or caregiver on current best parenting practices.

The children you serve are getting best practice care and programming at your school, center, or clinic. What about the parents and caregivers? Who’s helping the parents follow up with positive and proactive strategies in their homes and communities?

The CALM Compass is a practical parenting tool that has four directions for parents and caregivers to turn to: CONNECT, ARTICULATE, LIFT and MOVE. Each of these directions point towards specific skills and strategies parents will use in everyday situations.

For instance, how to respond to a meltdown, how to prepare and plan for problems, or how to help mediate challenging transitions.

My goal for The CALM Compass is to put positive and proactive parenting strategies in the hands of people who need them the most: parents and caregivers of children with Autism.

Who Is It For?

The CALM Compass is intended for you to use with parents and caregivers of students or clients in your schools, centers, and clinics.

As a professional who works with individuals with ASD, just like me, The CALM Compass. I collaborate and consult with colleagues in ASD centers, schools, and clinics about effective ways to help the parents and families of the kids that come to their schools and centers.

The parents need support too! Many programs and schools, rightly so, only address the needs of the individual student, while the parents and providers flounder their way in frustration and fatigue searching for a program that unifies and connects everyone on the child’s team.

Program professionals and front-line staff can quickly learn and see the effects of positive and proactive parenting strategies on the families and children they serve by using The CALM Compass. Empower your program, center, or schools to reach out and support parents and families with specific strategies of best practice to improve the lives of individuals with ASD.

Why Should You Use It?

Programming and implementing best educational and center based supports is hard enough for directly servicing kids with ASD. Most schools and centers don’t have the systems in place to identify and serve the needs of parents and caregivers who are also feeling stressed and overwhelmed with the complexities of ASD.

The individuals and families your organization serves are feeling stressed and overwhelmed with the complexities of ASD. You are looking for a ready-made solution that will serve their immediate needs.

Use The CALM Compass to improve the lives of your students and clients in your program, center or schools with Autism by helping both professionals and front-line staff work with parents and caregivers using effective and concrete strategies at home.

Use The CALM Compass in your school or program to increase the connection and stability with families and caregivers of kids in their home environments.

Use The CALM Compass to support a consistent and unified way of talking about ASD that bridges a connection between the professionals that work with the child and the parents and caregivers at home.

This Program takes a positive and proactive approach to parenting! No more punishment for bad behavior, rather improving your understanding to take the best action for professionals and parents.

How Does It Work?

There are supports, therapies, and services that cater to youth on the spectrum, but what is missing and desperately needed are programs for the parent and caregiver of children with ASD.

The CALM Compass is an online program that provides parents with the current, best parenting practices to use every single day with their child. The strategies are evidence-based, interactive, and transferrable to other children in the home as well.

Inside the program there are videos, supplemental materials, fill in the blank questions and reflection prompts to help you make positive progress on your ASD Parenting Journey.

Parents and caregivers that have learned from The CALM Compass report their children having fewer meltdowns and improved emotional regulation. Parents report feeling less burned out and having more direction when it comes to what to say, how to say it, and when to say it.

UnitusTI offers flexibility when it comes to when you are able to do this program, and the ability for more than one parent or caregiver to participate too.
